Here it is - a brief guide to using PageCheck

Before we start the first thing do is download PageCheck from here.

PageCheck is a Microsoft windows program which is used to check stock levels from any internet retailer. The program, at set intervals, checks the web pages you define for the text which indicates that an item is in stock, i.e. to monitor a product on Amazon.co.uk entering the search text 'sold by Amazon.co.uk' would be sufficient to generate an alert when the item came into stock.

So if you're looking for a program or system to automatically check stock levels or availability, then give ours a shot. If it doesn't quite fit the bill for you or 'If only it did...' then please get in touch, the product is constantly in development and we'll do our best to add functionality to help you out.

Click the add button or select an existing check to view the properties window

Configuration Options

Give your check a meaningful title which you can relate to, and enter or paste the url to check in the URL field.

In the Search For box enter the text to search the page for, when this text is found an alert will be triggered. Select a method or methods of being notified in the Notify Me By: box. If you select Send Email you'll need to configure the email options but we'll get to that soon.

By selecting Reverse Check an alert will be generated when the search text is NOT found. This option is commonly used with retailers who don't have the text 'In Stock', or similar, when the product is in stock but always have 'sorry, out of stock' message when the product is out of stock.
So by entering 'sorry, out of stock' as the text to search for and selecting Reverse Check and alert will be generated when 'sorry, out of stock' is not found on the page to check i.e. when the product is in stock.

Select how often to check by setting the Check URL Every: option, then check the Enabled box to enable the check or leave it un-checked if you're setting this check up for the future.

Completed PageCheck Configuration

This example is configured to check Amazon.co.uk for Wii Fit's that are sold by Amazon this is achieved by searching for 'sold by Amazon.co.uk' which only appears on the page when the item is in stock with Amazon.

This example will alert me by a message on screen, launching the page and sending me an email.

I've selected Disable when Found as I don't want an email every minute when the item comes into stock.

Email Configuration

If you want to be alerted by email you'll need to know and enter you SMTP mail details from your ISP into the email setup as shown above, mostly ISP's don't use secure SMTP but you can use this with gmail and similar which do use secure SMTP.

Once you're happy with your settings click save and your check will be displayed in the list of current checks.

Checks

In order to carry out checks check the 'Checking Enabled' checkbox, checking the 'Run at startup' option will start the program when windows starts.
